It’s time for another date night in! This time around we’re doing a Greek inspired night. I’ve never been to Greece, it was our original honeymoon destination but we never made it. We went to The Adirondacks in upstate New York instead, totally comparable right? haha! It’s still on my list of places that I would like to see but until then I will settle for a date night full of tasty food and some fun and games. Can I get an opa?
What to Eat:
There is no shortage of delicious Greek recipes. Many of them are quite involved though. If you enjoy cooking as part of your date night try your hand at Moussaka or Pastitsio. These dishes are always on lists of foods to try when visiting Greece. You can never go wrong with Spanakopita, Keftedes, or this super simple Greek Sheet Pan Chicken for an easy date night meal. For dessert, Baklava is a labor of love and the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Greek desserts. This honey cake also looks super good. Fun fact: Honey was the first traditional sweetener used by Greeks. It was considered to be so rare and valuable, that they called it Ambrosia, the food of the Gods of Olympus. There is no place in Greece without a local honey producer.

What to Drink:
Ouzo, is a popular Greek spirit and aperitif with a quite distinctive anise flavor. It’s definitely not for everyone but can make some delicious cocktails. This Ouzo Lemonade looks super refreshing and the roundup of cocktails on this page all look really good. The Santorini Sunrise and Greek Doctor would be my choices. For a non alcoholic drink whip up Vyssináda, a Greek cherry cordial. I would serve it with some seltzer for a little bubble action.
What to Listen to:
I think this Greek Taverna playlist on Spotify is perfect for a date night in. It’s sure to transport you to a Greek isle with the warm breeze blowing as you sip your Ouzo lemonade.
What to Do:
The Olympic Games were first played in Greece so have a little at home Olympic fun. You could do a “javelin” throw with pool noodles, a water balloon shotput, a frisbee disc throw. Here is a post with some at home Olympic ideas you could do on your date night. Weather not great and you want a cozy night in? Watch a Greek movie! My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Mama Mia are two of my favorites.
I hope you enjoy your Greek Date Night In!
