Friday Finds April 29

April 29, 2022

Happy Last Friday of April! This year is just flying by, I cannot believe “It’s gonna be May” hahaha…sorry had to. And if you don’t get the joke it’s ok, ridiculous NSYNC/Justin Timberlake humor. Anyways! This week’s finds include an author to check out, a new summer beer, a breakfast recipe and a mansion stay.

Kate Morton

My brother gave me The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton for my birthday. At almost 500 pages I couldn’t believe when I finished it in a weekend. I was hooked on this author and wanted to read more of her work. Morton’s mysteries tend to have secrets within secrets and every time you think you’ve figured it out, something new will be revealed. I LOVE that! Always keeping you guessing until the end. I have also read The House at Riverton, The Forgotten Garden and just finished The Distant Hours last night. If you enjoy books that keep you guessing with beautiful characters, check her out.

Seconds to Summer

Allagash Brewing has a new lager just in time for warmer temperatures. It’s called Seconds to Summer and it may quickly become your poolside beer of choice. At only 4.5% it’s the perfect beer to sip at a cookout or after working in the garden. It’s brewed with traditional hops from the Czech Republic and fermented with Belgian yeast. It’s refreshing and has just a touch of hoppy-ness.

Breakfast Polenta

Andrew and I recently got away for the weekend and stayed at a lovely inn in Camden, Maine. Breakfast was served each morning and we were treated to a sweet breakfast polenta one of those days. I make polenta often but always as a savory dish. I enjoyed the breakfast polenta so much that I’ve found a couple of recipes that I’m going to try. This recipe from Heartbeet Kitchen looks like it will give you fuel until lunchtime and this one by VNutrition has a berry compote that cashew cream on top. Yum!

Live that Lux Life

I’m looking forward the new Downton Abbey movie and apparently you can have the Downton Experience in the south of France. The experience is set over three days and guests can try their hand at clay pigeon shooting and horseback riding. Enjoy a picnic on the garden grounds, take a boat out on the water, and even host their very own ball. (Roaring 20s attire included) I’d want to stay there for the pink grand hall alone, it’s gorgeous! Read more about it here and here.

Have a great weekend!
