Favorite Unique Stays

February 19, 2024

When Andrew and I travel we tend to either stay in a hotel or in an apartment. Sometimes though we end up staying in some place really special. Here are some of my favorite unique stays and a couple that I would like to stay at someday.

Nazelles-Négron, France

On our second trip to France we spent the night in the Amboise Troglodyte. When exploring the Loire Valley, Amboise is a must stop. Rich in history, and boasting a fairy tale castle-dotted landscape, it will take your breath away. The cave that we stayed in was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It was the perfect place to call home while exploring the area. The hosts were so nice and welcoming as well.

Springvale, Maine

This little hobbit house was such a fun place to stay. Purposely Lost is a tiny home property in southern Maine. They currently have three tree houses and two hobbit homes. We stayed at the Fern Hollow Hobbit Home and it was truly a magical experience. The house itself was very comfortable and had everything you may need for a Middle Earth getaway. Plus a hot tub 🙂

Bayeux, France

This town in the Normandy region of France is known for it’s famous tapestry. Did you know that it also claims to have the smallest house in France? Well we stayed in the former lockmaster’s workshop overlooking the river and we can vouch that it is quite tiny. We had a lovely stay and the owner was super sweet and full of recommendations.

Boston, Massachusetts

Our most recent unique stay was at The Verb Hotel. The whole place is rock and roll themed. Song lyrics on display, a crazy good record collection, band memorabilia, and turn tables in every room. We stayed in one of their backstage trailers which are nestled between the hotel and Fenway Park. It was such a cool place to stay and the staff were super friendly.

Lapland, Finland

Andrew is very proud of his Finnish heritage, so I know we will visit Finland eventually. Why not stay in a glass igloo while we’re at it?  Each igloo made of thermal glass, which helps to keep the heat inside. Sounds super cozy to me. Every igloo also has luxury beds and its own private bathroom. There is also a sauna and 4 restaurants on site. Plus a chance to see the Northern Lights and reindeer prancing about?!?!? When can we go?

Kennebunkport, Maine

The Dome Home sits on 42 acres of its own land and is surrounded by conservation land and woods. This quirky stay is on my list and I even tried to win an overnight here (spoiler alert:I didn’t win) It’s completely off grid and is powered by solar energy and propane. From the description/photos it has everything that you may need and looks great for a group. I’ll stay here eventually. 🙂

Have you had a unique stay? I’d love to hear about it and maybe add it to my list. 🙂
