Cheap Eats- Portland, Maine

October 13, 2024

Portland is quite the foodie city with SO many restaurants to choose from when planning a meal out. Even if you are on a budget you can still have a tasty meal in this seaside city! I asked some friends where they go to get their favorite cheap eats. Here are some most loved spots in Portland where you can get the most bang for your buck.

Bogushas Polish Restaurant & Deli

This is a hidden gem of Portland. Nothing fancy but delicious, homemade Polish food that will keep you satisfied for around $10. The Polish Platter which is a combination of the most popular Polish dishes: 2 pierogi, 1 golabek, kielbasa and bigos is only $9.50 for lunch and the handmade Pierogi only $7.50 for a platter. The most expensive dinner is under $15. Located at 825 Stevens Ave

Dina’s Cuisine

When we are in the mood for Middle Eastern food this is our go to spot. Not only is it incredibly tasty but it’s also super affordable! Grab a falafel wrap on their freshly made flatbread for $6.99 or a chicken shawarma plate which is served with hummus, dolma, Pickles, Fries , sauce, a dessert plus a drink for $18.99! This is also a great place to just pop in for dips. They have great hummus and Baba Ganoush which are around $5 each. Located at 845r Forest Ave.

Susan’s Fish and Chips

This favorite among fried food enthusiasts has great specials. Monday and Tuesday you can get 2 fried fish sandwiches for $5! And Wednesdays all haddock meals are $1 off. Check their facebook page or call for daily deals as well. Located at 1135 Forest Ave

Golden Lotus

This Chinese restaurant located in the middle of downtown has great lunch specials! The portions are quite large so it’s really two meals in one. Which means you can share or have leftovers which is always a plus in my book. The lunch specials are around $10. The spicy beef lo mein with dumplings is really good. Located at 511 Congress Street

Henry’s Public House

Stop into this pub on a Monday night and you can get steak, frites and a martini for $25 or a Ceasar salad, frites and a martini for $20. That may seem a little higher than other meals on this round up but it includes an adult beverage so it’s a pretty great deal if you ask me. Located at 375 Fore Street

Otto Pizza

If you pop into Otto’s for happy hour you can get a slice of pizza for $1 if you also buy a beer or glass of wine. And you’re not limited to just cheese or pepperoni. If you want mashed potato pizza with your beer go for it. This deal is Monday-Thursday 3-6pm. Check website for various locations and give them a call to make sure they participate in the happy hour deal.

Anthony’s Italian Kitchen

An Old Port staple for more than 30 years, this kitchen is still serving up great lunch deals. You can get a decent sized slice of pizza for $4.50, a loaded Tony Soprano sub for $11.50 or a super delicious grilled chicken wrap for $10.99. I’ve been grabbing these wraps since I was in high school and they are so filling that I never finish them. You can also get pasta dinners served with garlic bread for under $18 and are sure to have leftovers. Located at 151 Middle Street.

At time of posting all of the restaurants above were open. Please be sure to check individual websites/social media pages before venturing out. Portland has been going through a lot of changes recently.
