As the snow melts and the first blooms appear, Maine transforms into a perfect springtime escape. Whether you’re craving coastal charm, scenic hikes, or indulgent local eats, Maine’s spring season is a great time for a weekend adventure. Here are some destinations for a spring getaway.
1. Kennebunkport – Coastal Charm and Boutique Stays
Spring in Kennebunkport means fewer crowds and plenty of charm. Stroll the quiet beaches, wander through Dock Square’s quaint shops, and treat yourself to fresh seafood at The Clam Shack. Many of the area’s adorable inns and boutique hotels offer shoulder-season deals, making it an affordable luxury getaway. Be sure to catch sunset at Goose Rocks Beach, take a scenic drive along Ocean Avenue and sip a spring cocktail at Earth at Hidden Pond.

2. Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park – Nature Awakens
Before the summer rush, Bar Harbor is a peaceful gateway to Acadia National Park. Spring brings budding trees, blooming wildflowers, and trails that are ready for hiking (just bring layers and good boots). Early season hikes to Jordan Pond and Cadillac Mountain are a great way to explore the area. The town’s cafes and galleries start to open back up for the season so be sure to check out Stewman’s Lobster Pound and Havana. Enjoy the lack of summer crowds and soak in the waterfront views for a slow, rejuvenating weekend.
3. Portland – Foodie Paradise with Waterfront Views
If your ideal weekend involves food, craft beer, and coastal scenery, Portland’s vibrant Old Port comes to life in spring. Enjoy patio dining at top-notch restaurants, explore the cobblestone streets, and walk along the Eastern Promenade to catch the springtime ocean breeze. Venture across the bridge to Cape Elizabeth nd visit the iconic Portland Head Light for classic Maine views. Pack a picnic or grab a lobster roll at Bite Into Maine while you’re there. Check out my posts about where to stay, favorite brunch spots and date night restaurants in Portland.

4. Camden – Mountains Meet the Sea
For a blend of coastal beauty and outdoor adventure, head to Camden. In spring, you can hike up Mount Battie for sweeping views of Penobscot Bay, then explore the charming harbor town below. Camden’s cozy inns and waterfront dining make it a dreamy escape. The Norumbega is a great place to stay and check out some of my favorite restaurants here.
5. Ogunquit – Art, Beaches & Coastal Walks
Spring in Ogunquit is all about blooming gardens, art galleries, and walking the stunning Marginal Way. It’s a quieter, more romantic version of this summer hotspot — perfect for couples looking to escape for the weekend. Be sure to grab a coffee and a crepe at Mornings in Paris before doing a little shopping and exploring the local galleries.
I hope this list inspires a little spring getaway to Maine.
Cheers!
