Friday Finds November 4

November 4, 2022

How is it already November? I hope everyone had a great end to their October. We’re having unseasonably warm temperatures this week in Maine and I’m hoping it starts to feel cooler soon. It’s hard to get dressed in the morning when the calendar is telling you it’s sweater weather but the temps outside are screaming shorts. This week’s finds include some turkey tips, an advent calendar round up, some fall desserts and some voting advice.

Turkey Tips

It’s time to start thinking about turkey. Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away and whether it’s your first time hosting or you’re an old pro it’s nice to have a little cheat sheet. Tips for making a great brine, what to do if your turkey is still frozen and making yummy gravy are always good to have on hand. Most people only make this dish once a year.

Advent Calendars

I love advent calendars, I always have. The chocolate in the ones we had when I was a kid was not the greatest but I still got excited when it was my day to open the little cardboard door. This article has a round up of fun/unique calendars that you should order right now, so you’ll be ready for the Christmas countdown. I have the one from Bonne Maman and cannot wait until I get unveil my first treat.

Just Desserts

The flavors of fall are some of my favorite. I found this list of yummy looking desserts that are perfect for fall. And I promise it’s not just a list of pumpkin filled pastries. There are really good looking fig bars, cinnamon chai coffee cake and caramel apple crumb bars too. (plus a lot of pumpkin recipes) If you’re tasked with bringing a dessert to a gathering try one of these.

Vote

Mid-term elections in the US are this Tuesday, November 8th. I for one cannot wait for the seemingly endless political ads to be over. Remember that your vote counts and if you are unsure on some ballot questions check out this article for some tips. You still have time to be an informed voter 🙂 .

Have a great weekend!

  1. It’s crazy how advent calendars have come a long way since I was a kid. I haven’t had one in forever. I’m thinking this is a sign that I should treat myself. It’s a great way to get excited for the upcoming holidays.
