Healthy Habits to Start Before January

Advertisements

January doesn’t need to be a dramatic reset. You don’t have to wait for a new calendar to build better habits, in fact, starting before the new year may be the smartest move you make. In my humble opinion. 🙂

These simple, realistic habits will help you enter January feeling calmer, healthier, and more in control without going on a detox, spending money, or reinventing your life. Because really…who has time for that?

Create a Gentle Sleep Routine

The holidays tend to throw sleep off track, but one small change can help reset your body fast:

Focus on consistency, not perfection. This article from Good Housekeeping has some great tips!

Reset Your Mornings (Not Your Whole Life)

Instead of planning a massive life overhaul:

Tiny routines build momentum.

Balance the Sugar With Something Better

The holidays don’t need restriction, just a little balance.

Try:

Walk More

Movement doesn’t need to be complicated. You may be doing these things already but it helps to get those steps in and keep your body moving. If you are tracking your steps and aren’t hitting 10,000 a day, don’t beat yourself up! This isn’t a number backed by science, I read a Woman’s Health article that goes over it a bit more.

Tidy One Small Space Each Day

Clutter affects energy more than we realize. This is something that I am actively working on. A few minutes daily creates peace fast.

Swap Scrolling for Something Calming

Stop the doom scrolling! Trade comparison for calm by doing one of the following.

Practice “Enough” Thinking

More isn’t better, enough is. Satisfaction is a habit that you should definitely adopt. When you are always comparing yourself to others you will never be satisfied with what you have. While you are thinking the grass may be greener over there, someone is thinking the same thing about you.

Prep January You

Do one helpful thing for your future self:

Future you will be grateful.

January will come whether you’re ready or not. But if you start healthy habits now , you arrive in the new year already moving forward. This season isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about returning to yourself.
