It’s the second week of January and I wanted to share some mocktails that I’ve been enjoying this month. After the holiday season I always try to cut back on alcohol, sweets and heavy meals. Do a bit of a reset for my body. This year, I especially wanted to cut back on the alcohol because well….2020. I wasn’t throwing back a 4 pack or a bottle of wine every day but definitely drinking more than I usually do. So I decided I would join the Dry January challenge. Which, in other words, means no alcohol for the entire month! I’ve been doing great and it’s been easier than I thought it would be. Are you participating in Dry January? Or maybe you’re just looking to enjoy a booze free beverage or two 🙂 Here are some mocktails that I’ve been enjoying this month.
Raspberry Lime Spritzer
This mocktail has a nice tartness to it which I love. If you would like to sweeten it up a bit you can add a bit of sugar or sweetener of your choice while pureeing the raspberries. Simple syrup can also be added to your drink if you have some in the fridge!
- pint raspberries
- Seltzer water
- One lime
- sweetener of your choice (optional)
- Puree raspberries in a food processor or blender until smooth. If there are still a lot of seeds pour through a mesh strainer.
- Pour one bottle of seltzer slowly into a pitcher or large measuring cup. Spoon half of the raspberry puree into the seltzer. Stir slowly until combined.
- Pour into a glass filled with ice. Stir in a squeeze of lime juice.
- Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make a second glass.
Sex and the City is coming back with a limited season on HBO Max. Yay! This is a cosmo that would even get Carrie’s seal of approval.
- 1 tablespoon 100% cranberry juice (not cran cocktail but the real deal)
- 1/2 tablespoon orange juice
- 2 oz or 1/4 cup seltzer or tonic
- 1/2 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- Agave syrup or honey (to taste)
Place all ingredients (except club soda) into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Pour into a traditional martini glass, slowly stir in club soda and garnish with a slice of lime.
Cucumber T no G
- 1 cucumber
- High Quality Tonic water like Fever Tree or Fentiman’s. ( I love the elderberry Fever Tree)
- Optional Splash of fruit juice of choice
Slice the cucumber, either in round discs or long ribbons. Ribbons can be easily made with a vegetable peeler. Fill your glass with ice, insert cucumbers and add your tonic water. Easy peasy!
Minty Lime Spritz
Super refreshing! I’ve sipped these poolside but they are a perfect mocktail any time of year.
- 7-8 fresh mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon sugar (or sweetener of choice)
- 1 lime, freshly squeezed
- Soda water
- Lime wedge and 2-3 fresh mint leaves for garnishing
Muddle the mint leaves and add to a tall glass. Fill a glass halfway with ice cubes. Add lime juice and top up with soda water. Garnish with a lime wedge and some more fresh mint leaves.
Grapefruit Ginger Spritzer
This recipe that I found on Lauren Caris Cooks hits the spot when you’re looking for that punch of ginger. I love a ginger brew cocktail because it has a nice bite to it.
- Ginger brew /beer/ale (I LOVE Maine Root ginger brew it has a nice bite to it)
- Grapefruit Juice
Fill a tall glass with ice and fill 1/3 full with grapefruit juice. Top up the remaining 2/3 with ginger brew. Voila!
