Up, Up and Away

I’ve always been a big fan of experiences rather than traditional gifts, a few years ago Andrew gave me tickets for a hot air balloon ride and when we finally went it was amazing! I had wanted to go up, up and away for as long as I can remember so this was the perfect gift for me. Maybe not so much for Andrew, he’s afraid of heights.

We had to get up early and drive down to New Hampshire for our sunrise flight, that meant up and out the door by 4:30am. Andrew admitted on the ride there that he was still terrified of the whole idea, but he was going to do it and try his best to hold it together.  When Tony, the pilot, arrived he immediately put Andrew at ease. He said that people don’t have a fear of heights, they have a fear of falling and you won’t feel that when you are in the basket. Thankfully Andrew was fine during our flight and I am so glad that we were able to experience this together.

It was a very hands-on experience. We helped with both the set up and the repacking of the balloon.

We took flight to the 5th Dimension “Up, Up and Away” and the lyrics are so true “The world’s a nicer place in my beautiful balloon, it wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon. We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky…. For we can fly, we can fly “

The sky was so clear we could see Boston in the distance and the bird’s eye view of the trees and lakes were so beautiful. I still can’t believe that we experienced floating above New Hampshire.  I am smiling ear to ear as I type this, thinking about the amazing experience that I was able to share with my husband. If you are in the New England area you should definitely look into High Five Ballooning!
